In this media review post I will be talking about the song “Who Says” by Selena Gomez. This song is about not caring what people think of you even when words hurt but to feel beautiful and realize you are enough. This song relates to our advocate issue which is womens bodies because this song is all about feeling confident in the way you look even though you may not always feel that way. I think this song really helps a lot of young girls and women realize you should not listen to what other people say about you and feel confident in yourself. It is important to have self-love and feel good about yourself no matter what anyone thinks. Society likes to make women feel less about themselves and this song brings a light to that. A part of the song that i really love is when Selens says “I'm no Beauty Queen. Im Just beautiful me”. I think this is so important and really helps women understand they do not have to look a certain way to feel beautiful. I used to jam to this song when I felt down about myself and insecure. It really helped me understand that I am enough despite what judgmental people have said about me in the past. Society has made it known that there is a certain image that makes girls feel like they have to try harder to look a certain way to be pretty to people. Selena addresses this in her song by saying “Trust me, That's the price of Beauty”. I think she wants every girl to know that it is okay to feel down on yourself sometimes because that is normal but Beauty is not everything. Sometimes it is hard to feel good enough and beautiful sometimes when there are things like social media and society telling you, you do not fit in or you are not as pretty as other girls. This song makes girls embrace their beauty no matter what they look like and realize they need to feel confident in themselves.
