Visual Art Review By Emily N:

For this media review, I chose to write about a unique artist named Cinta Tort Cartró. Cinta is a 24 year old Spanish woman who uses her art to empower women with all different body types. She also uses art to help women feel comfortable in their own skin and to not listen to society telling them what is beautiful about their bodies and what is not. Cartró’s art highlights the natural beauty of women and their bodies and she advocates to break the stigma of seeing these things as “flaws”. She is most well known for painting over stretch marks on women's bodies to break the stigma of stretch marks being “gross” or “ugly” and empower women to love themselves and their bodies. She uses vibrant paint with glitter to essentiate the beauty of stretch marks. Cartró wrote in an instagram post, “From a young age we are taught to hate everything about our bodies and are constantly being pushed to erase everything that is not normal...including stretch marks. I spent years hating them and trying to find a way to erase them, until I realised that if I didn’t accept them, I wasn’t accepting myself” (@zinteta). She wrote this message along with pictures of her beautiful artwork to show and tell why she is creating this art. Cartró also paints underwear with period stains on them, but they are colorful. This is yet another way she is advocating for women's bodies. It is known that most people look at periods and think it is gross and unhygienic. This thought could lead to girls being insecure and ashamed of themselves. I have attached three images from Cartró’s instagram. As you can see, Cartró is using her rainbow art to change the way women look at themselves and their “imperfections”. Stretch marks and periods naturally occur to women worldwide, it is time we stop shaming our girls about things we cannot stop or change.
